18 political blocs, including coalitions, movements, parties and revolutionary groups said they will begin staging an open-ended sit-in beginning Monday at Dawn in Tahrir Square and called on all national fronts to stage sit-ins in major squares around Egypt.

The Muslim Brotherhood described developments in a statement Saturday as a “clear attempt by hidden hands trying to derail the elections and spread chaos.” The group also criticized the sit-in as wrongly timed.

The groups also condemned attempts to break the sit-in through the use of force “as long as the sit-in breaks no laws.”

The Islamist group also called for the evacuation of the square “in order not to give an excuse to those attempting to derail the civilized march of Egypt.”
